How to Get Things Done This Year

I was inspired to write this blog post for those of you who are wondering how to accomplish your goals and really get things done this year. I know I’m guilty of saying I’m going to accomplish so many things by the end of the year and never fully go through with them. I want that to change this year. I want to be a woman of my word and really go after all that my heart desires. If you’re feeling like me, this post is for you.

Let’s get into it:

The very first thing we want to do is…

1. Stop talking and start DOING

Last year I talked a lot about my goals, but I never actually worked towards achieving those goals. For instance, I kept talking about starting a YouTube channel, but I never purchased a camera. I never did thorough research on how to edit. I didn’t do anything to push myself in that direction; therefore, I never got it done. That won’t happen this year. I will accomplish my goals (speaking it into existence – it’s called the power of manifestation). Let’s make a vow together to stop talking and start doing. That’s the only way we’ll be successful.

2. Have a strategic plan

Whenever you start working towards your goals, it’s important to have a strategic plan. Not just any plan will work. You need to know exactly how you’re going to go about accomplishing your goals. Take me for example. There we so many things I had to consider before starting my blog. I had to ask myself, “What type of content do I want to produce? Who is my target audience?” I decided to produce lifestyle and fashion content and market my blog to women my age (though I welcome all). I had to ask myself, “How many days a week do I want to put out content?” I’m still figuring that one out. Some weeks it’s twice a week; others it’s only once a week. It’s okay not to have it all figured out as long as you’re getting something done. I also had to think about how to promote my blog. I narrowed it down to three platforms: Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. As you can see, there’s a lot that goes into a strategic plan, but it’s so worth it in the end. Your plan has to be very detailed and specific in order to work.

3. Don’t get discouraged along the way

This is very important! I say this because getting discouraged can cause a lot of us to give up on our goals. There were so many times last year when I got discouraged and sort of “gave up” on blogging. There were times when I felt like I wasn’t getting the recognition I deserve and that caused me to be really hard on myself. We have to be strong enough to keep going despite hardships and doubts along the way. I had to realize that not everyone will support me and believe in what I do – not everyone will recognize my hard work, but that’s not an excuse to stop going. I refuse to let my doubts stop me from pursuing my passion. I’m still blogging and doing what I LOVE. This is my journey, and I’m in full control of how I handle both the good and the bad. The same applies for you. No matter what, never give up. Keep working!

4. Ask the right questions, and get advice from those who have already done it

I do understand that there are some people who aren’t willing to help others reach their level of success. Some people don’t want to see you do better than them, but we can’t focus on those people. We have to focus on those who are willing to lend a helping hand. I had to learn the simple lesson of, “you won’t know unless you ask.” So, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are so many talented people out there who thrive off of helping others. I follow quite a few of those people on social media, and you probably do too (life coaches, business coaches, social media strategists, etc.). Ask them how they do it and what got them where they are today. This leads me to my last point…

5. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there

If you ever want to be truly successful, you have to be willing to put yourself out there. You have to be open to networking and meeting people who have common interests/goals. The only reason people found out about my blog is because I put it out there. I announced it on social media, and I continue to promote it on social media today. I also follow several bloggers on social media and try my best to interact with some of them. I’ve even messaged a few of them asking for advice. Some of them didn’t message me back, but that’s okay. As long as I know I’ve tried and done my best, that’s all I can do. No one can fault you for trying.

Remember: fear limits you and your vision. We’re not letting fear control us this year. We’re looking fear straight in the eye, and we’re not stopping until we get things done!

Are you feeling motivated after all of that?! I hope the answer is yes.

Comment down below how you plan to get things done this year. I would love to hear all about it.
